Synopsis of Projection

Kristina Faragher’s video piece, Twirl, transports the viewer into a slowed down, up-close world of peculiar sound and image. An ambient soundtrack is layered over subsonic noise taken from a recording of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and several tracks from the distant planets, Jupiter and Saturn. The body of a wrecked military cargo plane provides a central landscape where the weaving of intermittent imagery takes place. The blonde head of a young woman holding an umbrella spins across the screen and miniature helicopters race in a circular motion. Broken glass windows and blurry horses that are galloping around a carousel become luminous abstractions. The cacophony of sounds, curious imagery and the lack of a clearly identified narrative offer a space for the viewer to enter into a sensory contemplation and the imagined world of otherness.
